Chili peppers cause airport hazmat call

MYFOXNY.COM -

A red hot mess with red hot chili peppers overnight caused big problems at the FedEx hub in Memphis.

Hazmat crews were called to the hub on Sprankel Street near Democrat around 2:30 a.m. Thursday after a forklift damaged a pack that contained chili peppers. The same chili peppers are used to make pepper spray.

117 FedEx workers were treated by crews on the scene. None of them had serious injuries, but two people, a man and a woman, were taken to the hospital with chest pains.

Lt. Wayne Cook of the Memphis Fire Department said FedEx had the situation pretty much contained by the time they arrived.

Hazmat crews did do a light clean up of the area.
