The Army is investigating 26 potential suicides from the month of July, that's more than double the number of cases from the previous month.

The Army says one of July's deaths has been confirmed as a suicide and the other 25 remain under investigation.

In June, the army reported 11 potential suicides among active-duty soldiers.

For 2012, there have been 116 potential active-duty suicides:  66 have been confirmed as suicides and 50 remain under investigation.

There were another 12 potential suicides among reserve soldiers who were not on active duty.  Nine involved Army National Guard and three involved members of the Army Reserve.

In 2011, there were 165 confirmed suicides among members of the active-duty Army.

For 2012, there have been 71 potential not on active-duty suicides (44 Army National Guard and 27 Army Reserve).

In 2011, there were 118 suicides.

"Suicide is the toughest enemy I have faced in my 37 years in the Army," Gen. Lloyd Austin III, vice chief of staff of the Army said.
