There's a reward of $20,000 for information leading to the arrest of the individual responsible for throwing a pit-bull puppy out of a moving vehicle on Long Island.

The Suffolk County SPCA says it has increased its initial award of $2,000 to $5,000. Another $15,000 has been offered by the New York City-based ASPA.

Caregivers at the West Islip Emergency Veterinary Clinic have named the dog Joey.

Suffolk SPCA Chief Roy Gross says the perky-eared pup has bite marks on his neck, indicating he may have been used as bait at dog fights. He is also malnourished.

"Someone out there knows who did this and we are asking that person to come forward," Gross said.

Joey was injured on Saturday afternoon near the Sagtikos Parkway in Brentwood. A driver who saw it happen called authorities.

Anyone with information should call the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722.

All calls will be kept confidential.
