Judge: case continues for accused Manhattan madam

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK (AP) -- A judge has refused to dismiss the case of a suburban mother charged with being a big-money Manhattan madam.

The judge rejected the defense bid Thursday as Anna Gristina appeared for her promoting-prostitution case. Her trial was set for Oct. 15.

Co-defendant Jaynie Baker's court appearance was postponed.

A person familiar with the case told The Associated Press this week that Baker has made a deal with prosecutors. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the agreement has not been aired in court.

Defense lawyer Norman Pattis says Gristina doesn't believe Baker has any information that could harm her.

Prosecutors say Gristina peddled prostitutes for 15 years and claimed law-enforcement connections. Her lawyers have said she was merely starting a matchmaking business.
