Unfazed by the sound of gunfire, a cockatiel landed on top of a New York State Police cadet during firearms training on Wednesday, authorities said.

The multicolored exotic bird planted itself right on top of the cap of bulletproof-vest-clad cadet at the Guilderland Range on Grant Hill Road in Guilderland, N.Y., police said.

State Police firearms instructors took the bird into custody for safe-keeping.

Cockatiels, endemic to Australia, are popular domestic pets.

Guilderland is a town in Albany County.

If this bird belongs to you, police want you to call the New York State Police Academy at 518-457-7254.
