Pair charged with additional Norwich arsons

Posted: Updated:
NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) -

Norwich police have filed more charges against two city men they say were part of a loosely-connected group responsible for a string of arsons in the city.

Nineteen-year-old Nicholas Fauquet 20-year-old and Jonathan Ortiz are accused of setting March fires on Main Street and Laural Hill Avenue.

They are among four people earlier charged with fires on Oak Street and Lake Street.

Police say Ortiz told them he set the Main Street fire in a pickup near the home because the owner owed him money for drugs. It spread to the house, where a family of 6 was able to escape the flames.

The second fire destroyed a building used by Reliance House for programs to help clients with mental disabilities.

Both men are being held in lieu of bond.
