FORT LEE, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities have identified the athlete who died in the Ironman U.S. Championship in New York and New Jersey as a police officer from Hong Kong.
Andy Naylor appeared distressed during a 2.4-mile (3.9-kilometer) swim at the start of the all-day triathlon Saturday. The 43-year-old was lifted from the Hudson River and received CPR before he was taken to a hospital.
The Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office tells The Record newspaper autopsy results are pending.
Contestants in the race followed their swim in the Hudson with a 112-mile (180-kilometer) bicycle ride through the suburbs, and then a 26.2-mile (42.2-kilometer) marathon that finished at Manhattan's Riverside Park.
