A Long Island burglar got more than he bargained for when the home owner came home and stabbed him.

It happened Monday afternoon in Farmingville.

Suffolk County police say the homeowner was pulling into his driveway at about 2:15 p.m. when he saw a man leaving his home through a rear window.

He grabbed a knife from his car and confronted the intruder, who was also armed with a knife.

Police identified the burglar as Alex Debono, 20, of Miller Place.  They say he attempted to run through the backyard and a struggle ensued.  During the struggle, the homeowner stabbed Debono in the leg.  Debono was able to escape after he climbed over a fence.  Police say he ran to a nearby Kmart on North Ocean Ave.

Debono was arrested as he tried to leave the store.  Items stolen from the victim's home, including a watch and an Xbox, were found in the store's bathroom.

Debono was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center where he was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

He was facing burglary and weapons charges and was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
