MYFOXNY.COM -

Hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets along Sixth Avenue in Midtown for annual Dominican Day Parade Sunday afternoon.

Sixth Avenue was draped proudly in red, white and blue for the colors of the flag.

About a half million people attended the parade and many of those marched, danced and celebrated all things Dominican.

"It was excellent, it was very nice – we are Dominican!" said one parade goer.

The parade featured a host of colorful floats and costumes.

Many of the marchers are from New York but many also came from across the country and even the world.

"It was very nice we had a fun time, I spent time with my friends and every time they saw us, we would blow the whip or what not," added another parade attendee.

Several prominent city officials, like Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and Mayor Michael Bloomberg attended today's festivities.

"New York City boasts one of the largest Dominican populations in the U.S.," said Mayor Bloomberg. "Dominicans here say aside from the partying and the food – what really sets them a part from any other culture is their pride."

The parade is now over and we've got a lot of exhausted participants here.
