The New York Yankees are in the process of putting together a deal to acquire RHP Derek Lowe, according to ESPN.
The report says the deal was confirmed by Lowe's agent Scott Boras.
The 39-year-old pitcher was designated for assignment by the Cleveland Indians on August 1 and his deal with New York will not be completed until Monday.
Lowe is expected to pitch out of the bullpen while Yanks' hurler C.C. Sabathia goes on the disabled list. Sabathia was placed on the DL Saturday and will be unavailable until at least August 24.
Lowe, a member of the 2004 Boston Red Sox world championship team has a 174-156 record with a 4.01 ERA in 16 major league seasons. He was 8-10 with a 5.52 in 21 starts for the Indians in this season.
The veteran right-hander began the season 6-1 with a 2.05 ERA, but is 2-9 since with his ERA ballooning to 5.52.
