CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (AP) -

A national atheist organization is threatening to sue an eastern New York school district over two songs taught to elementary school children that mention God.

The Union reports the Shenendehowa school district has responded to letters from the group that the songs weren't used as prayers and no laws were broken.

The Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation says in the letters legal action is imminent if the district doesn't cease using the songs in its music class. The organization tells the newspaper that a parent contacted it anonymously.

The songs were "Thank You For the World So Sweet," which includes the line "Thank you God for everything" and "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep," which includes the line, "I pray the Lord my soul to keep."
