ARGYLE, N.Y. (AP) -

A 53-year-old Washington County man has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for abandoning an elderly dog found along a rural road with its front legs, back legs and muzzle bound with duct tape.

The Glens Falls Past-Star reports that Shane Morehouse of Fort Edward was sentenced Friday. He had pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of abandonment of an animal.

Morehouse told a judge he was sorry for going along with a friend who told him he was no longer able to care for the 13-year-old, mixed-breed dog.

The other man, 43-year-old Louis Hart of Hudson Falls, has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor animal cruelty. He's scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 6.

A veterinarian found the dog had late-stage cancer and it was put down after its rescue.
