Drought leads to rising food and gas prices

Posted: Updated:
MYFOXNY.COM -

With the hottest July on record, and with drought conditions over much of the country, you might wonder why that matters here in New York.

The prices of corn, soybeans, and just about every other commodity have gone up -- and so have the prices of some of your favorite foods.

The sun is searing much of the country, drying up precious crops.

Economist Mike Norman warns it's not just your food that will be affected. He said you'll be paying more for gas because of the ethanol, a corn by-product.

If commodity prices fall soon, don't necessarily expect these items to drop too.
