One more thing about a traffic problem. When I walked into our newsroom this afternoon the first thing I said was, "Who is the moron that told a movie crew they could shut down parts of lower Michigan Avenue, Wacker, and Columbus in the middle of a weekday afternoon? And I'm still asking the question tonight.
The movie is the third Dhoom film--a Bollywood export. They'll be shooting here all week along with another shoot at the same time at Dearborn and Kinzie--for a new NBC series called "Chicago Fire." The after-lunch traffic around Streeterville, the Navy Pier, and Michigan and Wacker was miserable.
There was no advanced warning this was going to happen. Not even a mention during the mess on any radio traffic report. I know because I was in my car wondering if the president had decided to make a last minute trip to the Billy Goat.
I'm all for more productions using our great city as a location. It's good for the economy here, gives the terrific Chicago IBEW, IATSE, and teamsters some work, and it's fun to see. But if they're not shooting in the middle of the night or early Sunday morning (hey, some of us are trying to get to work around here), then how about a little advance notice!
