Powerball jackpot rises

The Powerball jackpot is up to $253 million.  The next drawing is Saturday, August 11.

The chances of winning the grand prize is 1 in 175, 223, 510, according to the Powerball website.

Players must match all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball in order to win the jackpot.

Good Day NY sent reporter Antwan Lewis to Shiv convenience store in Jamaica, Queens on Thursday to talk with people buying lottery tickets.

The store has sold multiple winning tickets over the years including the $133M Mega Millions winning ticket in 2009.

Customers Antwan spoke with had a wide variety of plans for the money if they were to win including a man who said he'd send money back to family in his home country and the woman who said she'd pay for her childrens' educational expenses.

Powerball is played in 42 States, Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
