Tree Growing Out Of Home Caused Wall Collapse

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

FOX 29 News is working to get results for homeowners fed-up with deadbeats who let neighboring properties collapse into ruins, destroying their houses in the process.

Vacant and abandoned homes are a major problem all over the city. One house on the 2400 block of Wirth Street has a full-size tree growing out of it.

The woman who rents the house next door says she's on edge every day after a wall collapsed and took out her electric meter.

The mayor's office says they are making a dent in the estimated 40,000 abandoned city properties.

Since November, 40 percent of owners who went to "blight court" have complied with orders to fix up their homes or sell them.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell has more details in this video report.
