The latest mobile application tailored to meeting the needs of New Yorkers launched this week and its creators hope to change the way people hail a taxi cab across the country.

The new app, ZabKab, lets you hail a cab using GPS which alerts drivers who are subscribed to the service know where people are waiting for a ride.

Approximately 1,000 Taxi and Limousine Commission cab drivers are hooked up to the service which its creators say is in compliance with TLC regulations.

There is no fee for the user. Taxi drivers pay between $9.95 and $14.95 per month.

New Yorkers Good Day NY spoke with had mixed feelings about the app.

One man said in high traffic areas the service wouldn't work better than the standard way of hailing a cab, but at night, the app would make finding a ride easier.

ZabKab is available to iPhone, iPad and Android users. The service will become available to Blackberry users in the coming weeks, according to Flatiiron Apps.
