A New York City councilman is calling for tougher regulations for the pedicab industry.

It comes after a report that a family of four from Texas was ripped off by a pedicab driver in to the tune of more than $400.

The family traveled from 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue to 55th Street near Sixth Avenue, according to the New York Post.

The price of the 10-block ride is absolutely outrageous says Councilman Dan Garodnick (D-Manhattan) who is now calling for the tougher regulations.

The licensed driver identified by the Post as Savas Avci allegedly neglected to tell them he also charges a $100 per person minimum.

The information was posted on a rate card required by the city.

Councilman Garodnick is presenting a bill in the city council that would require all pedicab operators to tell riders the total rate before they agree to be taken around town.
