The military confirms that two fighter jets intercepted two planes over the New York region during President Obama's visit on Monday evening.

The F-15s, under the direction of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), intercepted the two planes during separate responses.

The fighters intercepted the first aircraft at approximately 7:00 p.m.
over Long Island after it entered the temporary flight restricted area.

After intercepting the plane, the F-15s followed it until it landed.  The plane was met by local law enforcement, according to NORAD.

The FAA says the plane was an experimental or homebuilt aircraft called a Kitfox.
The FAA says that it was going to interview the pilot before deciding what action to take.

The second plane was intercepted  in the temporary flight restricted area space at approximately 7:30 p.m. near New Haven, Conn..  The aircraft was allowed to continue flying without being forced to land.

The FAA says pilots have an obligation to be aware of when and where there is a temporary flight restriction and if they wander into it, it is a violation of federal aviation airspace.
