The Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) revealed that complaints for police misconduct involving the NYPD have decreased over the past few years.

The CCRB released its 12-month status report for 2011 on Monday and provides a look at the number of complaints for police misconduct.

In 2011, people filed 5,966 complaints, which was 8% less than 2010's number of 6,467, and 22% less than 2009's number of 7,660.

Stop and frisk complaints have accounted for one-third of the complaints since 2005.

The CCRB's data shows people complained about street encounters with police the most.Yet, people who are stopped are filing complaints at a lower rate. The CCRB received one complaint per 400 stops as compared to 319 in 2010 and 256 in 2009.
