Greenwich power restored

Posted: Updated:
MYFOXNY.COM -

Power has been restored to almost all of Greenwich, Conn., Monday night after almost the entire town was without electricity because of a tree that came down onto a main line.

Sunday night, a tree came down onto one of the two main transmission lines that serve the town. Power output was lowered 15% due to the issues.

On Monday morning at about 10 a.m. the tree sank lower and caused an arc to the second line, putting it out of service.

At one point, power was out to about 25,000 individuals and businesses -- about 90 percent of Greenwich's customers, Connecticut Power and Light estimated.

By Monday night, power had been restored to all but about two dozen customers.

First Selectman Peter Tesei declared a state of emergency on Monday morning.

A mobile command center was set up at Summit Rd. and Palmer Terrace.
