Powerful thunderstorms pound parts of NJ

A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 11:00 p.m. Sunday night for Ocean, North Atlantic, Southern Monmouth and Eastern Burlington counties.  

The National Weather Service Doppler radar at 10:30 p.m. continued to show a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing quarter size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. 

The storms were located along a line extending from McGuire Air Force Base to Presidential Lakes to Wharton State Forest moving east at 40 mph. 

Severe thunderstorms will be near Woodruff, Wading River, Old Halfway and Cedar Glen Lakes around 10:40 p.m. -- by Cassville, Whiting, Penn State Forest and Crestwood Village by 10:45 p.m. and by Jackson, Bass River State Forest by 10:50 p.m. 

Officials say this is a dangerous thunderstorm. If you are in its path, prepare immediately for damaging winds, destructive hail and deadly cloud to ground lightening.

People outside should move to shelter, preferably inside a strong building but away from windows.
