The NYPD says officers shot a suspect who had fired shots at them as he attempted to flee the scene of a crime early Saturday morning.

Authorities said plain clothes officers heard shots fired around 2:47 a.m. near 2320 Linden Boulevard, which is located by the 75th Precinct in East New York. The officers went to the location and found a 28-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen and saw a 20-year-old man running from location with a gun in his hand.

The officers got out of their vehicle, identified themselves as police officers but the suspect continued to run away.

The officers ran after the suspect across Linden Boulevard to the front of 2525 Linden Boulevard when the suspect turned and shot at them. Police shot back and struck the suspect in the right leg.

Police recovered was a .32 caliber revolver with five spent shell casings inside of it.

The shooting suspect and the victim were taken to Brookdale Hospital where both are listed in stable condition.

Police say a second suspect, a 21-year-old man, was arrested inside of 2535 Linden Boulevard. Authorities say he was with the shooting suspect when the victim was shot during a robbery attempt.

The two officers, a sergeant and a police officer, were taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital as the sergeant suffered tinnitus (ringing of the ears) and the officer sustained a leg injury.

Charges for both suspects are pending.
