Every four years around the Olympics, gymnastics programs see an enrollment surge. The program at Chelsea Piers included.
Fox 5's Teresa Priolo checked out the young gymnasts there (and also gave the balance beam a shot). Among the smiling, or in some cases, strained faces, perfectly pointed toes, and rock-solid physiques lie the dreams of Olympic hopefuls.
For all we know, one of these girls may be the next Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman or Jordyn Wieber. They have been watching this summer's Olympic Games intently, cheering on the Fab Five as they captured gold.
Douglas also made history Thursday as the first African-American woman to win the all-around gymnastics gold. Her win has bolstered these kids' enthusiasm for the sport.
