In a recent P. O. V., we asked the California Teachers Union to stop interfering when parents want to change their low-performing school by implementing the Parent Trigger Law.

California passed Parent Trigger in 2010, giving the right to parents to organize and file a petition to transform a school academically languishing in the bottom 10% of the state.
Parents in the desert town of Adelanto recently scored a big victory when a Superior Court judge awarded them the right to reform Desert Trails Elementary School under this law.
The judge's decision now allows these parents to move forward to either create a public charter school or revamp the administration of their school.
The Adelanto School District hired high-priced lawyers to fight these parents and are likely to appeal the judge's decision.
Unfortunately, that's just more taxpayer money going out of the classroom and clearly not what's in the best interest of the kids.
The message is clear: it's time for the teachers union and the school districts to stop interfering with parents trying to implement Parent Trigger.
Give parents a chance to determine their school's direction when a school has become a failure factory.
