Photos Of Uniformed N.J. Cops In Pa. Bar Lead To Investigation

Posted: Updated:

Two Camden police officers are under investigation after they were caught buying beer in uniform, FOX 29 News reported exclusively Thursday night.

Photos sent to us by a FOX 29 viewer show the uniformed officers at Yards Brewery in Philadelphia. Although the pictures don't show them drinking, the tipster tells us she saw the officers – one of them wearing ranking stripes – having at least one beer.

Several sources tell us that the officers, after spending more than 20 minutes inside, bought three cases of beer before leaving the bar.

"It just seemed a little inappropriate in full uniform and obviously carrying a weapon and, you know, representing our tax dollars hard at work," said the woman who gave us the photos but asked us not to reveal her name.

We went to the Camden Police Department to show them the pictures. They immediately told us an investigation will begin into who the officers are and if they were on duty at the time.

We showed the pictures to the people police are paid to protect. What was done may not have been illegal but, at the very least, they say it was a bad image for the department.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell caught up with one of the officers seen in those pictures working Thursday night. That officer said he was off-duty working a side job at the time that photo was taken.

However, police policy in Camden is if you are in uniform, you are on duty all the time.

O'Connell has more details in his video report from the FOX 29 News at 10.
