The wife of a Long Island swimmer reported missing and who later turned up in South Carolina says she is living in fear.
The New York Post reports Raymond Roth, 47, of Massapequa staged his drowning to claim life insurance.
Speaking during a news conference Friday, Evana Roth said she's afraid her husband will come after her because she found out he was alive.
Her attorney's office said she got a text message an hour before the news conference to "be nice."
Roth reportedly found emails between her husband and son sent the day before the accident that lead her to believe it was staged.
She said he told her he did it for her, according to a report.
Raymond Roth was reported missing in the waters off Jones Beach Saturday and was pulled over for speeding in South Carolina Thursday, a day after his brother said he was in Florida, according to the New York State Park Police.
"He's not drowned and dead," New York State Park Police Capt. Bruce Marx said at an afternoon press briefing Thursday.
Roth told them he planned to return to New York, but has not yet surfaced, reported the AP.
Evana allegedly received several calls and text messages from her husband when the story went public.
"I just hung up the phone," the N.Y. Post quotes Roth as saying.
Police and the Coast Guard had been conducting an air and sea search for Roth.
His family told authorities they last saw him swim out and then lost sight of him.
On Wednesday, his brother called detectives to say Roth was in Florida, said police.
Roth was speeding along I-95 northbound in Santee, South Carolina at about 3:30 a.m. on Thursday when he was pulled over and allowed to proceed north.
Captain Marx said Roth was later seen in Florida.
A spokesman for Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice declined to comment.
