Report: WalMart eyeing CitiField neighborhood

Posted: Updated:
MYFOXNY.COM -

Mega box store WalMart is interested in a Willets Point, Queens location if the company can gain enough support from local officials, according to a NY Daily News report.

The retail chain does not have a store in New York City despite ongoing efforts for a store in East New York, Brooklyn.

According to the Daily News, the retailer is remaining tight lipped about its behind-the-scenes courting of support.

If built in Queens, the store would be in the so-called 'iron triangle' east of CitiField.  Plans have been in the works to redevelop the area.

The New York City Economic Development Corporation denied the report.  It Tweeted @MyFoxNY that the developer has had no discussions with Walmart and the report is "absolutely without merit."
