An NYPD spokesman says Officer Arthur Roldan, 28, was arrested Wednesday on charges of rape, menacing and assault.
He says the off-duty incident happened on Staten Island and that the officer knew the victim.
Sources tell the NY Post the woman is Roldan's girlfriend. He allegedly sexually assaulted his victim at gunpoint late Tuesday, reports the Post.
The spokesman says the six-year veteran was assigned to a precinct in Brooklyn and has been suspended without pay. Information on his lawyer was not immediately available.
Roldan was scheduled to be arraigned in Staten Island Criminal Court on Thursday.
Last month, a former New York City police officer who admitted raping a schoolteacher he had grabbed off a street was sentenced to 10 years to life in prison.
