NEW YORK (AP) -

New York City's first openly gay council speaker says she wouldn't use her office to oust fast-food chain Chick-fil-A from its sole city location because of its anti-gay marriage stance.

According to the New York Post, Christine Quinn said she didn't want businesses that hold discriminatory views. But she said those that follow the law have a right to open in the city.

Chick-fil-A is located in an NYU dormitory food court.

Quinn's comments Tuesday were a departure from her position last week. She wrote a letter to NYU President John Sexton saying she did "not want establishments in my city that hold such discriminatory views."

According to NYU spokesman John Beckman, Chick-fil-A's President Dan Cathy's comments on gay marriage were out of step with the university's views.
