'Misunderstanding' over gun-themed political fundraiser

A political fundraiser involving dinner, drinks, and guns? Assemblyman Steve Katz, R-Yorktown, held a fundraiser at the Paladin Training Center in Carmel, N.Y.

Katz said he had a good reason to hold his event at the location: he helped raise grant money for the facility, which opened in January. The facility has air rifles, equipment, and hazmat suits and offers training to law enforcement.

Advertisements leading up to the $200 per plate event implied that guests might be able to fire weapons during the evening. That drew criticism from gun control advocates in light of the massacre in Colorado.

But Paladin CEO Felix Carcano said that was a misunderstanding and that guests would not be shooting. They would be observing as law enforcement teams carry out simulations.
