DETROIT (WJBK) -
Bob Bashara has a new attorney. A Wayne County Circuit Court judge allowed his legal team to withdraw from the case.
Bashara was to be arraigned Tuesday on a charge of solicitation to murder, but Circuit Court Judge Bruce Morrow adjourned the case until August 7 to accommodate Bashara's new attorney, Mark Kriger, who has been unavailable due to a pending federal trial.
Bashara is accused of trying to hire a man to kill Joe Gentz, the handyman accused of murdering Bob's wife Jane.
David Griem and Christina Utley, who formerly represented Bashara, filed a motion earlier to month to be removed the case, citing a "irreparable breakdown in the attorney/client relationship."
"Certain things happened in the relationship which just made it impossible for the two of us to go together," said Griem outside the courthouse on Tuesday.
On the stand at Bashara's preliminary exam last week was star witness Steve Tibaudo, the man who says Bashara paid him $2,000 to find a hit man to kill Gentz in jail. However, he also testified Bashara first approached him last summer about killing a woman.
"He said he needed to have a tenant taken care of. And I said, 'What do you mean?' And he said, 'I would like to have her either T-boned or run over,'" Tibaudo testified. "'Do you know anybody that can take care of this for me?'"
Gentz is being held at the William Dickerson Detention Facility in Hamtramck on charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy charges in the strangulations of Jane Bashara.
