SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -- Detroitfolk artist Rodriguez is featured in a new film "Searching for Sugar Man" that will kick off Friday, August 3 at the eighth annual Traverse City Film Festival.
In the film, two South Africans set out to discover what happened to their 1970s musical hero Sixto Diaz Rodriguez.
After finding not much success in America, Rodriguez found that he was a hit in South Africa.
"It was the best story I had ever heard in my life," said the Director Mark Bendjelloul. "I mean it was a true fairytale -- a man who lives 30 years as a construction worker in downtown Detroit at the time is more famous than Elvis Presley in South Africa."
After years of being out of the music industry, Rodriguez discovers himself back in the spotlight.
"It's rewarding and I'm able to share some of these experiences with other people so it's a great time for me," said Rodriguez.
The film is being featured at the Traverse City Film Festival, which runs from runs July 31 to August 5 and will open in metro Detroit theaters starting August 10.
The Traverse City Film Festival is a charitable and educational non-profit organization that emphasizes foreign films, American independents and documentaries.
There will also be classic movies shown free of charge on an outdoor screen overlooking Grand Traverse Bay in the Open Space Park at dusk as well as daily panel discussions with directors, writers and actors.
