A Long Island man was arrested for allegedly driving drunk and assaulting a police officer early Friday morning.

Suffolk County Police say Officer Jason Keenan saw a white Acura speeding eastbound on Montauk Highway in Bellport at 1:22 a.m on Friday.

When Keenan attempted to pull the car over, he says Andre Mack of 128 Poospatuck Lane in Mastic, sped away.

Mack stopped in front of 42 Carver Blvd, North Bellport, and tried to run away.  Keenan caught Mack and a violent struggle ensued, according to police.

Mack is alleged to have punched and kicked Keenan before being restrained and arrested.

Keenan was treated and released at Stony Brook University Medical Center.

Mack is charged with assault, DWI, and resisting arrest.  He was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday.
