Former Illini player sentenced to 90 years in rape

Posted: Updated:

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - A Champaign County judge has sentenced a former University of Illinois football player to 90 years in prison for raping a student in 1995.

Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz says Steven Feagin was sentenced Wednesday after being found guilty in June of raping the then 22-year-old art student in her apartment.

Feagin was found guilty of 3 separate acts against the woman. Each carried a sentence of up to 30 years in prison.

Feagin is now 42. The former Illini running back was arrested in 2008 in Florida after DNA evidence collected from a crime scene in that state led police to him.

He is also charged in two other long-unsolved Champaign County rapes from 1993 and '95.

Feagin was a student at Illinois from 1989 through 1994.
