The North Korean women's soccer team refused to take the field for 40 minutes after a flag mix-up before their opening match at the London Olympic games.

The game was supposed to start at 7:45 p.m. local time but it was delayed with the official live TV feed showing an empty field with the message "competition delayed".

A mobile phone photo provided to the Associated Press by James Crossan, showed a mistakenly displayed South Korean flag on a jumbo screen instead of North Korea's flag.

It happened at Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland.

"We will apologize to the team and the National Olympic Committee and steps will be taken to ensure this does not happen again," organizers said in a statement.
