MANORVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - Two skydivers are safely on the ground after spending about 30 minutes tangled up in a tree on Long Island.
Riverhead police say strong winds blew them into the tree in Manorville at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The owner of Skydive Long Island told Newsday they hung in their harness about 20 feet off the ground on River Road, near the Swan Lake Gold Course.
Ray Maynard said the skydivers were among five sets of tandem jumpers who took off in a plane from Calverton's old military airport. The others landed safely.
He said a first-time jumper in her 20s and a sky diver with about 10 years' experience got stuck in the tree branches.
They were not injured.
Maynard estimated the winds at 50 mph.
