Report finds former police captain had sex on duty

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) -

An internal investigation has found that a former New Britain police captain had sex while on duty numerous times, including twice while on overtime.

Anthony Paventi retired in December after the investigation was launched into allegations of improper behavior.

The report, released Tuesday, found Paventi rented rooms at the Days Inn on the Berlin Turnpike 15 times for sexual trysts during an 18-month span, while on the clock.

Messages seeking comment were left Wednesday morning with two attorneys who have represented Paventi during the investigation.

The New Britain Herald reports Paventi is receiving a pension of about $51,000 a year and seven years of health benefits.

Interim Police Chief James Wardwell called the alleged conduct unacceptable and says the department is "committed to forging a new path in the future."
