'Legally Blonde'-inspired state Senate candidate calls politicians 'boring'

MYFOXNY.COM -

Mindy Meyer grew up in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Like most politicians, she has pointed viewed views on some important political platforms. But unlike just about every other politician she has an unusual role model and an even more quirky campaign slogan.

Hot pink has replaced red, white, and blue for this aspiring politician. The 22-year-old conservative Republican is running for New York Senate, trying to unseat incumbent Kevin Parker, who said he is taking her seriously.

Meyer said Parker is boring.

"He has been in office for 10 years and he prides himself on the changes he made for NYC water.  I think it's pretty sad. He should have advocated more for womens rights," said Meyer during GDNY on Wednesday.

Meyer first became interested in politics when she was 11 years old.

Her campaign motto, stealing from the song "I'm sexy and I know it," is "I'm senator and I know it."

"I was trying to attract the attention of my young constituents in the district to show them the politics can be exciting and I decided to channel my adventurous side into my website and to show people... to get them interested in politics," she said. "I've been on a lot of websites doing research. I've been on a lot of the senators' websites of the 50 states from Wyoming to Colorado and I literally fall asleep."

She was drawn to politics by an unlikely character -- Elle Woods, played by Reese Witherspoon in "Legally Blonde."

Some of her potential constituents admit they might just vote for the bubbly 22-year-old because of her, well, chutzpah.

Meyer's website is not all pink glitz and glamour. On it, she explains her stance on a list of hot button issues from stop and frisk to abortion.

"I'm pro life, as I am from the Conservative party and I feel that if a woman is placed in a situation where she encounters and unplanned pregnancy, she has a lot of choices that she can do," she said.

Opponent Kevin Parker pointed out one problem with her snazzy website: it shows the Capitol in Washington, D.C., not the state Capitol in Albany.

Meyer said she plans on using her Orthodox Jewish roots to be her "guide and compass." Her big beef with politicians is all the corruption, which she plans to stamp out if elected.
