Brooklyn Public Library's Homecrest branch will now have self-checkout services for customers.
The new service is in part of a $2 million Community Capital Assistant Program grant for Brooklyn Public Library's self-check machines.
The technology allows customers to borrow and return materials from the library by themselves and allows the staff to spend more time on other tasks around the library.
The new machines are already installed across the borough in branches such as, Williamsburg, Kings Bay, Highlawn, Mapleton, and Bay Ridge.
The New York Public library, which is separate of Brooklyn Public Library has this same service in many of their libraries across the city.

Five people were injured when a van jumped a curb in downtown Brooklyn on Friday. The van rear-ended a Taxi and Limousine Commission vehicle at the corner of Church Ave. and Utica Ave. at about 7:45 a.m., said police. One of the pedestrians that was struck by the van was taken to Brookdale Hospital. Four other victims were taken to Kings County Hospital.
