The NYPD has charged two individuals in connection with the deadly shooting of a 4-year-old boy on a playground in the Bronx.

Three people, including the boy, were shot on a basketball court on Sunday evening.

Rondell Pinkerton, 17, of the Bronx, faces charges including murder and criminal possessing of a weapon. He went before a judge on Wednesday. Police said he claims he was handed a gun at the playground and then shot back in self-defense.

Pinkerton is believed to have fired the shot that struck and killed Lloyd Morgan, 4, according to police.

Speaking to members of the Grandmothers Love Over Violence organization on Tuesday, Commissioner Ray Kelly said the teen admitted to firing a gun, reported the AP.

Courtney Kelly, 26, of the Bronx, is charged with criminal possession of a weapon. He was wounded in the shooting. His mother told Fox 5's Lisa Evers that her son was trying to save Lloyd and is being framed.

The shooting happened at the McKinley Houses on East 165th Street and Tinton Avenue in the Morrisania section.

A 28-year-old man was shot in the stomach and a 31-year-old man was shot in the arm.

Morgan, of Mannor Ave. in the Bronx, was rushed to Lincoln Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The 28-year-old victim was also taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition. The third victim who suffered a gunshot wound to the arm was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital.

The shooting reportedly took place over a dispute after a basketball game during a tournament.  The tournament was being held in honor of a teenage girl who was stabbed last year.

The dispute came after a game which reportedly featured the name The Ghetto Angels.
