Suffolk County Police have identified a bicyclist who was hit by a car Friday afternoon.
Police say Kevin Mazanek, 48, of Laurel Drive, Sayville, died from his injuries at 9:56 a.m. Saturday at Stony Brook University Medical Center.
The crash happened at 4:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Highway in Holbrook when Mazanek was riding his Roadmaster Mountain Fury 15 speed bicycle eastbound in the left hand shoulder of the westbound lanes, near the intersection of Saint James Street.
Mazanek apparently veered in to the left travel lane where he was struck by a 1997 Ford Explorer which was driven by Cleofes Velasquez, 33, of Brentwood.
Mazanek was flown to Stony Brook University Medical Center where he suffered a severe head injury. Velasquez was not hurt in the crash.
