An emaciated puppy was found stuffed into a suitcase in Mt. Vernon.

The pit bull/lab mix was found near the Mt. Vernon Animal Shelter on Tuesday.  The staff said the puppy was so weak and malnourished that it could not stand.

The puppy was rushed to the SPCA of Westchester's Simpson Clinic.

Vets gave the puppy, now named Louie, emergency treatment but are not sure if it can survive.  It is currently getting 24-hour care.

They estimate that it is about seven months old and weighs 16 pounds.  They say it should weigh 40 pounds.

Surveillance footage showed an adult akita/pit bull mix being dumped in the same location a few hours prior to the puppy being dumped.

The older dog did not require emergency care is at the Mt. Vernon Shelter.

An investigation is underway to find the person who dumped the animals.  If anyone has any information on either incident they are urged to call the SPCA of Westchester's confidential animal cruelty hotline at 914-941-7797.
