Police: Kennedy was swaying after auto accident

Posted: Updated:

ARMONK, N.Y. (AP) - Police say Kerry Kennedy was swaying and slurring her speech when police found her after her car hit a tractor-trailer on a New York interstate.

In court papers released Tuesday, a North Castle police officer also alleges that Kennedy failed a standing-on-one-leg test and a walk & turn test Friday morning.

He says Kennedy told him she may have accidentally taken a sleeping pill instead of her thyroid medication.

The 52-year-old Kennedy is Gov. Andrew Cuomo's ex-wife. She is the daughter of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and niece of President John F. Kennedy.

Kennedy is due in court Tuesday night for arraignment on a charge of driving while drug-impaired. Her lawyer says she will plead not guilty.

He says he will comment on the police report at the court appearance.
