Father and son firefighters arrested in smoke detector thefts

A father and son are accused of stealing 65 smoke detectors from a Long Island fire station where they work.

Police report that Michael Dolan, 68, and Michael J. Dolan, 32, of 1736 Aladdin Avenue took 65 smoke detectors from a secured room in the New Hyde Fire Department on 1555 Jericho Turnpike.

Both were members of the fire department when the incident occurred on June 21.

The elder Dolan surrendered to police on Sunday and was arraigned on Monday.

His son surrendered to police on Monday and was expected to be arraigned on Tuesday in Hempstead.

Both face grand larceny charges.
