Results of a study by the New York City Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene expected to be released Tuesday show that the ban on trans fats in some restaurant food has led to a significant reduction in consumption.
The LA Times reported Tuesday that diners consumed 2.4 fewer grams of trans fat --which are associated with an elevated risk of heart disease-- per lunch since the ban went into effect in 2008.
The fight against trans fat is only one of the Bloomberg administration's efforts to improve public health.
Chain restaurants must post calorie information and a plan is in the works to ban super-sized sugary drinks.
