A JetBlue pilot was injured in the eye when the plane he was flying was targeted by a laser over Long Island.

It happened Sunday night over Islip.

An initial report on Monday by the Federal Aviation Administration describes the injury as minor. The pilot was not identified in the report on the incident.

It happened on JetBlue flight 657 flying to New York's JFK Airport. The flight had originated in Syracuse.

The plane landed safely and no one else was hurt.

Lasers beamed at pilots eyes have been an ongoing problem. In 2010, a JetBlue pilot says he was briefly blinded by a laser before touching down at JFK.

Pointing a laser at a plane is a federal crime.
