Long Island boater arrested

Posted: Updated:

WANTAGH, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island man has been arrested on charges of operating a boat under the influence of alcohol during a fishing trip with two other men.

Nassau County police say Anthony Marmo didn't realize that 1 of the men was thrown from the back of the 23-foot Trophy boat and that the other man had jumped in after him.

Police say Marmo became aware they were missing after traveling far enough that the two men were out of sight.

Lifeguards from Jones Beach spotted the men in the water and took a row boat out to rescue them. The men were not injured.

Marmo was charged with boating while intoxicated. He's to be arraigned Monday. It wasn't immediately known if he had a lawyer.

The incident occurred Saturday in Wantagh.
