Con Ed, union still talking after two-week lockout

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK (AP) — Consolidated Edison and the union representing thousands of New York utility workers are still at the table trying to hammer out a contract as another heat wave looms.

Con Ed spokesman Allan Drury says the two sides are talking Saturday, two weeks after negotiations broke down.

Neither Con Ed nor the Utility Workers Union of America Local 1-2 has indicated any real progress.

About 8,500 workers were locked out on June 30. Some 5,000 managers are keeping electricity going for 3.2 million customers in New York City and Westchester County.

The utility has experienced no major outages despite a recent heat wave.

The National Weather Service forecasts temperatures back in the 90s this week.
