DETROIT (WJBK) -

The video is everywhere, and animal lovers are asking isn't it enough to lead to criminal charges?  The answer is no, and that's exactly why the Michigan Humane Society is working hard to build a case.

"Once the video went viral, our phones just lit up," said Mark Ramos.

Detroit rapper Young Calicoe is seen in that video showing off pens containing dogs and roosters, claiming some were involved in fights.

Ramos is the senior investigator for the Michigan Humane Society.

"We actually became aware of this quite a while ago," he said.

That's when the humane society launched an investigation.

Fox 2's cameras were rolling as investigators removed dog after dog from the home Wednesday afternoon.  They also took roosters, but they didn't get the alligator because it died sometime after the video was made.

"We removed pit bulls and roosters from the location," Ramos said.  "They're receiving the best care they can."

Investigators are being very tight-lipped, but sources say what they discovered is typical of dog-fighting operations.  However, no one has been arrested because despite the public outrage, investigators have to be very careful about how they build this case.  When they do pass it along to the prosecutor, they want the charges to stick.

"If there's dogfighting tips, we follow up on every single one of them," said Ramos.

Investigators believe their investigation will be complete very soon.
